Florida Crocodile
Southern florida is the only place where alligators and crocodiles coexist.

Unlike australian and nile crocodiles the florida crocodiles are fairly small and shy. The american crocodile is considered at risk in nearly all parts of its north central and south american range.
A small remnant population lives in southern florida but most are found in. Crocodiles favor saltwater areas while alligators prefer freshwater and brackish water habitats. Of the 23 different species of crocodilians in the world 2 species are native to the united states and south florida is the only place where both of these species coexist. In 2014 10 or so people were scouring everglades national park at the southern tip of florida in an attempt to capture a crocodile.
Crocodile lake national wildlife refuge the crocodile lake national wildlife refuge located in north key largo is a 6 700 acre reserve established in 1980 to protect critical breeding and nesting habitat of what few crocs remained at that time less than 400 in all of florida. While alligators primarily live in the southeastern u s crocodiles are found in north south and central america as well as africa southeast asia and australia. American crocodiles crocodylus acutus are a shy and reclusive species they live in coastal areas throughout the caribbean and occur at the northern end of their range in south florida. The american crocodile crocodylus acutus is a species of crocodilian found in the neotropics it is the most widespread of the four extant species of crocodiles from the americas with populations present from south florida and the coasts of mexico to as far south as peru and venezuela. Crocodiles like saltwater and brackish areas and can usually be found near the florida coast.
